(she/her)
Alorah Roussel is a dedicated advocate for decolonizing systems, academia, and policy. With years of firsthand experience across multiple sectors, she possesses a unique blend of expertise in relationship-building, systemic analysis, and a strong passion for lifelong learning. Her ability to approach challenges through a justice-centred lens has made her highly effective in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. Alorah has spent significant time working in remote communities, particularly with youth, Indigenous groups, and other marginalized populations.
Much of Alorah's work is in the child welfare sector, where she has supported families and children in care. She has honed her skills in crisis intervention, community engagement, and capacity building through roles at organizations like Aurelia, Bluesky, and Amal Youth and Family Centre. During her tenure at Aurelia, she focused on capacity building in Indigenous communities in Labrador, a role that deepened her understanding of cultural sensitivity and community-driven approaches. Her professional journey has been accompanied by a personal commitment to dismantling privilege, fragility, and bias, and she continuously strives to be an ally in anti-racism efforts.
Alorah’s passion for fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) extends across sectors. As the current Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Manager at Brightisle, she has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at creating more inclusive environments for both vulnerable populations and those engaged in "caring" professions. She spearheaded the establishment of the first REDI Team within the child welfare sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. Her work encompasses policy analysis, collaborative relationship-building, and the integration of best practices in Reconciliation and EDI.
Alorah’s extensive network spans the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, where she maintains strong ties with key organizations involved in Child and Youth Care. In addition, as a Connector with the National Connector Program, she assists newcomers in integrating into the workforce, fostering connections and supporting their professional growth.
Beyond her professional commitments, Alorah is deeply invested in her role as a foster and adoptive parent. She is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Child and Youth Care, furthering her dedication to advocating for and supporting vulnerable populations. Her ongoing educational pursuits and community involvement reflect her unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion, and systemic change.
